CLIMATE WARRIOR FDK
UIN Sunan Kalijaga
Overview Climate Warriors
The Faculty of
Da'wah and Communication (FDK) at UIN Sunan Kalijaga continuously strengthens
its commitment to environmental sustainability through the Go Green
Movement, which has been implemented sustainably since 2024. As part of the
Ministry of Religious Affairs, this commitment is framed within the perspective
of eco-theology—a religious paradigm that positions environmental stewardship
as both a divine mandate and an act of worship.
This commitment
materializes through the Climate Warrior movement, an initiative born
from the collective consciousness of the faculty members. It has evolved into a
cross-sectoral collective movement involving faculty leadership, lecturers,
students, administrative staff, and sanitation personnel. Climate Warrior not
only fosters a clean, eco-friendly campus culture but also instills a shared
understanding that caring for the Earth is a mutual moral and spiritual
responsibility.
As an
organically growing grassroots movement, Climate Warrior represents da'wah
bil-h?l (proselytizing through concrete action) guided by the core
principle: “Our waste, our responsibility.” This principle aligns with
the eco-theology agenda of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, which asserts
that damaging nature is a violation of divine trust, whereas preserving and
nurturing it exemplifies spiritual devotion. Consequently, environmental issues
within Climate Warrior are not treated as peripheral activities, but rather as
an integral part of shaping the religious character and social awareness of the
academic community (civitas academica).
Three
Integrated Strategic Pillars
The Climate
Warrior initiative is managed professionally through three integrated strategic
pillars that support student learning outcomes within the context of social
realities:
- Research & Program Division: Serves as the intellectual engine
that fosters a scholarly culture by mapping environmental issues across
the faculty grounds. The research findings are converted into measurable
action plans, ensuring that every environmental policy within FDK is data-driven
(evidence-based policy). Furthermore, this division links
ecological issues with Islamic and social studies.
- Multimedia Division: Leverages the power of digital
communication to produce creative and educational content. This division
plays a crucial role in visual advocacy and raising public awareness
regarding the urgency of environmental preservation through social media
platforms, narrating the environment as a religious, social, and
humanitarian issue.
- Public Relations Division: Acts as a communication catalyst
that bridges the faculty’s internal relations with external parties. This
division ensures the preservation of FDK's positive image as an
ecologically conscious faculty while building collaborative networks with
external environmental communities and eco-friendly houses of worship.
Practical
Contributions and Future Directions
In practice,
Climate Warrior contributes to the national eco-theology agenda through
concrete activities. These include managing waste disposal during student
orientation events such as PBAK (Pengenalan Budaya Akademik dan
Kemahasiswaan) and Sospem (Sosialisasi Pembelajaran), strengthening
the waste-sorting culture within the faculty, establishing ongoing
collaboration with campus cleaning services, and developing collective
consciousness-based ecological actions.
Future
development plans encompass value-based environmental education, plastic waste
reduction campaigns, thematic ecological dialogues, and the
institutionalization of FDK Eco-theology Day as a space for shared
reflection and collective action.
Through the
Climate Warrior initiative, FDK UIN Sunan Kalijaga reaffirms its role as a
religious higher education institution that not only produces academically
excellent graduates but also cultivates individuals of strong character,
ecological ethics, and a critical awareness of global sustainability issues.
This movement serves as a tangible integration of da'wah, education, and
ecological responsibility, aligning seamlessly with the priority eco-theology
programs of the Ministry of Religious Affairs for the 2025–2029 period.
