Overview of LPM Rhetor

The Student Press Institution (Lembaga Pers Mahasiswa or LPM) Rhetor is a student organization within the Faculty of Da'wah and Communication (FDK) at UIN Sunan Kalijaga, focusing on journalism, publishing, and media research. Serving as the vanguard of information dissemination within the campus environment, Rhetor has transformed into a professional incubation hub for aspiring journalists, communicators, and media analysts. Its role is highly strategic, as it directly supports the practical skill-sets required by departments such as Islamic Communication and Broadcasting (KPI) and other study programs within FDK.

Strategic Objectives of the Organization:

  • Professional Competency Development: Providing a platform for students to directly apply journalistic theories, encompassing reporting techniques, news writing, photojournalism, and digital editorial management.
  • Catalyst for Critical Thinking: Encouraging students to remain critical, objective, and ethical in responding to campus and social issues through in-depth journalistic works.
  • Channel for Academic Aspirations: Serving as a communication medium that bridges student aspirations with policymakers at both the faculty and university levels.

Flagship Work Programs

To achieve these objectives, LPM Rhetor implements a series of structured, output-oriented work programs:

  1. Basic Level Journalism School (SJTD): An intensive regeneration and training program for new members to master the foundations of press science and writing in accordance with the journalistic code of ethics.
  2. Journalistic Product Publishing: Managing media platforms in the form of printed magazines, bulletins, and an online news portal (Rhetor.id). These products serve as routine information channels and opinion spaces for the academic community (civitas academica).
  3. Public Discussions and Issue Analyses: Organizing regular discussions that dissect social, political, and religious phenomena from a student journalistic perspective.
  4. Research and Investigation: Conducting in-depth coverage regarding campus policies or humanitarian issues that require comprehensive analysis.
