The Faculty of Da’wah and Communication (FDK) at Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University (UIN) in Yogyakarta has once again earned recognition at the national level. Three of its lecturers have been elected to strategic positions within deans’ forums and academic associations covering the fields of da’wah and the development of the Muslim community.
The elections and inaugurations took place as part of a series of events organised by the Deans’ Forum for Da’wah and Communication (Fordakom) in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, from 4 to 7 June 2026. The event was attended by 148 participants representing 28 State Islamic Higher Education Institutions (PTKIN) from various regions across Indonesia.
In the reorganisation of Fordakom for the 2026–2028 term, the Dean of the Faculty of Da’wah and Communication (FDK) at UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Prof. Dr. Arif Maftuhin, M.Ag., M.A.I.S., was elected as Chair of Fordakom. In the same executive committee, Dr H. Irsyadunnas, M.Ag., who currently serves as Deputy Dean for General Administration, Planning and Finance at the Faculty of Islamic Studies (FDK) UIN Sunan Kalijaga, was appointed as General Treasurer.
In addition to the election of the Fordakom executive committee, the forum also served as a platform for the consolidation of study programme associations. On that occasion, Prof. Dr. Pajar Hatma Indra Jaya, S.Sos., M.Si., a lecturer in the Islamic Community Development (PMI) Programme at the Faculty of Da’wah and Islamic Studies (FDK) of UIN Sunan Kalijaga, was elected as Chair of the Islamic Community Development Association (P2MI) for the term 2026–2031.
According to Prof. Dr Pajar Hatma Indra Jaya, S.Sos., M.Si., the election of three academics from the Faculty of Da’wah and Islamic Studies (FDK) at UIN Sunan Kalijaga to the leadership of this national organisation is a sign of the trust placed by PTKINs across Indonesia in the academic and leadership capabilities of the university.
“This trust also serves as a mandate to continue guiding the development of Islamic da’wah scholarship and the empowerment of the Muslim community so that they remain relevant to evolving social challenges,” he said.
As Chair of P2MI, Prof. Dr. Pajar Hatma Indra Jaya, S.Sos., M.Si., aims to strengthen the PMI study programme through the production of knowledge focused on social innovation, da’wah, and various models for resolving social issues in Indonesia. In his first year of leadership, he aims to compile a collaborative book to serve as a national reference and to formulate association-standard course modules that can serve as a benchmark for Islamic Community Development study programmes at various higher education institutions.
Furthermore, P2MI will also strengthen communication and partnerships with various government agencies as part of its efforts to expand career opportunities and professional recognition for graduates of Islamic Community Development programmes.
Fordakom is a coordination forum that brings together deans from the faculties of da’wah and communication within PTKIN institutions. This forum serves as a platform for formulating academic policy, harmonising curricula, and strengthening inter-campus synergy in the development of da’wah studies, communication, and the empowerment of the Muslim community.
The meeting in Balikpapan produced a number of strategic recommendations, including those relating to the organisation of study programme nomenclature, the standardisation of educational quality, and the strengthening of academic collaboration to address the needs of society and future developments in higher education.
